Yoga For Men
The benefits of yoga is becoming well known to ladies. Even though our classes have men participants, it remains still a minority.
The comments I receive are often similar:
"I am not flexible"
"It's for women, isn't it"
"My hips are tight, I cannot sit on the floor"
"I play other sports..workout, soccer, hockey, golf.."
Some answer:
"Great! You are not flexible. This is definitely not a pre-requisite. This is probably a good reason for you to try out yoga. I would love to have you in class and we can begin to work together to achieve your goals." As a dental hygienist (in my past life :) ), this would be similar to a patient stating that they need a dental cleaning but would not seek the services of a dental hygienist/dentist.."
"Yoga is for EVERYONE. Our classes are designed to reach everyone at all levels. Babies(yes, babies), kids, women, men, mature students. Somehow, women seem to reach out more when it comes to taking care of their health-physically, emotionally and spiritually..."
* Ladies, please encourage the men in your life to try out yoga.
"Yes, men's skeletal structure and North American lifestyle of sitting on the chair does make it challenging to sit on the floor. Regular practice of Yoga will help but to begin you may sit on a bolster, blanket which we provide at the studio."
"More and more professional level athletes are actively taking yoga as part of their training. This helps with their flexibility, range of motion, breath awareness, ability to take in more oxygen, balance, strength and stamina. Strength training results in tight, short muscles. Yoga can help to 'loosen' the muscles and make them lean.".
YOGA FOR MEN class
YOGA for MEN class will be offered once a month. This definitely does not mean that you cannot try our other classes. All our classes are open to men and women.
Yoga for Men class has the intention to introduce men to yoga and they will be surrounded by other men. This will, hopefully, provide a more relaxed atmosphere and get to know other students in a more informal environment.
Yoga for Men class is open to all the men with different levels, beginner to 'not a beginner anymore'. We will give modifications and take it to your level. We will use props to help you in a pose.
As in any other activity, please allow yourself a few sessions to be more comfortable with yoga.
MOST IMPORTANTLY, please take it slow, go at your pace and do not judge yourself. We will make the class enjoyable.
Please come in with an open mind. And a mat and a bottle of water! You may rent a mat at the studio or purchase one. For your safety, socks are not required to practice yoga. Wear loose comfortable clothing/workout clothing.
Dates: First Saturday of each month. If it's a Long Weekend, the class will be offered the following Saturday.
Time: 12:30pm-1:30pm
