Namaste dear yogis and yoginis,
From time to time I will post up personal blogs, interesting articles along with Satula Yoga updates on this forum.
I have been fascinated by the following subject: impermanence, nothing is permanent. I am aware of this, at least I thought I was until once in a while I get a jolt of surprise when things actually change significantly in my life. I have to be honest and say that when things go well, I catch myself thinking...'hmmm...I like where I am..things are going smoothly and exactly the way I want it to be..' Oh oh! At this exact moment, universe pinches me and now I am presented with a challenge. Then appears those wrinkles between my eyebrows and I look up to the sky. And a friend smiles and says: 'Lucky You! Another opportunity to grow!'
As it often occurs, I happen to pick up a book, Boomer Yoga, by an author who is a pioneer in Power Yoga, Beryl Bender Birch.
Here is what Ms Birch says about changes..
"Our bodies, our minds, our interests, our abilities, all are changing. It is undeniable. The body is really slowing down-whether it begins to happen at forty-five or sixty-five, it happens. Our perspective and passions change. The change is irrefutable and the longer we resist noticing, the more out of touch we are with the whole process of personal evolution. We are supposed to change, everything in the world of form changes-things come into existence and things go out of existence and we will all pass along. It's not depressing. It's life. It can be difficult or easy. Only one thing determines which it will be-our own resistance or compliance."
"..if you resist, you miss out on the whole reality of life. If you comply, you join in the flow, and you can even direct the rudder as to which direction you'd like to go. By not resisting I don't mean you just accept any injustice, any abuse, or any illegal act that comes your way. I am not saying that there aren't some things in life that will make us unhappy or uncomfortable-and given the state of our global condition, there are plenty. But until you get present with them, you can't do anything about them. Accepting what is, simply because it is , and then doing the work for transformation, moment by moment, day by day, is the way of true yoga. But the first step is to be present all the while with each moment, as it is. "
As Deepak Chopra writes in his book Buddha...
"Look at the forest. We walk through it every day and believe it to be the same forest. But not a single leaf is the same as yesterday. Every particle of soil, every planet and animal, is constantly changing. You cannot be enlightened as the separate person you see yourself to be because that person has already disappeared, along with everything else from yesterday."
